According to franchise news, the latest franchising trend being capitalised on by entrepreneurs in the US is blowouts. For the men out there, we’re not talking wrecked tyres, we’re talking hair and blow-drying. And when hair and beauty is a multibillion dollar industry, it’s a trend to get in on.

Simplified services

These ‘dry-bars’ are springing up in many metropolitan areas across the country, focusing on providing women with runway ready hair without any of the other frills. Unlike a traditional salon, these facilities have completely simplified their services – no colour, no cut, just styled blow-dry.

Money and style

DryBar, offering this exact service, first opened in 2010 and already has 16 franchised locations and employs 800 stylists. Another franchise, Blo, opened in 2007 has 22 locations across the US and Canada. For those who are sceptical of the business model’s profitability, each salon can get through between 20 and 30 customers a day with a price tag of between $35 and $40 per dry.

Like their international counter parts, South African women love good hair. From regular styling to bridal parties and special occasions, there’s a gap in the market to cater to this desire.
