And the Winner Is…!

On the 15th of November, Taste Holdings announced the winner of The Fish & Chip Co franchise give-away competition to the value of R500 000.

And the Winner Is…!

Francois Beetge, will be setting his store up in the Western Cape to join his two other Fish & Chip Co franchises. The Fish & Chip Co is expanding rapidly, with 277 stores open at present. This expansion will help create jobs as well as provide entrepreneurs with a model for success that comes with the support of the franchisor, Taste Holdings.

Beegte says winning the franchise was a welcomed surprise as he and his wife, Celeste, had already put down the deposits for two stores in Strand and Eerste Rivier in the Western Cape. “Celeste and I firmly believe in the brand and we are immensely excited about the opportunities that The Fish & Chip Co. have to offer.

Both our stores will be opening on the 1st of December, while the store that we have just won, will open up in February next year to allow us time to focus on our newly established stores first,” says Beetge.

The competition process

The competition was open to the public for participants that paid a refundable R100 000 joining fee to The Fish & Chip Co from 1 February to 31 October 2012. During that time, 173 joining fees were received and applications audited. Of the five finalists, Beetge was randomly selected as the winner and new owner.

Christo Calitz, CEO of Taste Holdings Food Division, says the positive response to the competition is both a testament to the prevalent entrepreneurial spirit in South Africa, and the excellent track record that the franchising industry offers.

“As a fast-growing franchise, we are delighted to welcome Francois Beegte to our ever growing family of 277 stores, and will take every necessary step to ensure that this unique partnership is a long term one,” Calitz says.
