A Slice of Fifa Action

The US demand for pizza soared during the Fifa World Cup from 12 June to 13 July, particularly on Thursday 26 June when the US played (and lost to) Germany. Lunchtime sales at Pizza Hut’s 6 300 US outlets went up more than 50% on that day.

Any time of day

Because of the time zone difference between Chicago and Brazil, pizza orders started streaming in as early as 11am at Papa Johns, another US pizza franchise.

ZPizza, a franchised joint that has an online ordering and delivery app, reported a log jam of incoming orders and estimated a two hour wait for delivery.
